Your Guide to the Best Excursions on Maui

1. Catamaran Snorkeling

Maui is one of the best places in the world to snorkel. After all, our island is surrounded by warm, clear ocean and countless sea creatures! For a unique snorkel experience you won’t forget, we recommend catamaran snorkeling with a local charter. You’ll sail to incredible locations where sea turtles, tropical fish, and vibrant coral reefs await. Some of our favorite tour companies include:

2. Volcano Tours

Exploring Haleakala Volcano is a must when you’re on Maui. This massive crater is the upcountry’s most popular attraction and looms 10,000 feet above sea level, offering panoramic views that are truly out of this world. Feel free to go it alone or sign up for a guided excursion with a local guide. There are quite a few volcano tours available, including sunset/sunrise adventures, summit hikes, downhill bike rides, and more.

3. Sunset Cruise

When it comes to romantic activities for couples, nothing compares to a sunset cruise on Maui. You and your special someone can head out during the Golden Hour and enjoy great drinks, fresh food, and incredible views as the sun sinks beneath the Pacific. One of our favorite excursions is Pride of Maui’s Dinner and Cocktail Cruise, which includes live entertainment from guitarist Joe Cano. The boat leaves out of Ma’alaea Harbor in Wailuku, about a five-minute drive from our Inn.

4. Helicopter/Airplane Tours

Of course, one of the most epic excursions you can have on Maui is from above. Sign up for a helicopter or airplane tour and discover the volcanoes, rainforests, and waterfalls that have made the Valley Isle famous. You may even be able to spot a few whales! Be sure to bring your camera to capture the stunning bird’s-eye views.

Local Tip: Helicopter/airplane adventures aren’t cheap, so keep your eyes peeled for tour packages and discounts. That way you can enjoy the experience without breaking the bank!

5. Whale Watching Trips

If seeing a whale up close is on your bucket list, you’re in luck! Whale season brings thousands of North Pacific Humpback whales to Hawaiian waters from November to May. You can watch them breach in South Maui coastal areas like Kihei and Wailea, or off of North Shore beaches like Paia Bay and Ho’okipa Beach Park. You can also take a whale watching tour to learn more about these playful creatures. Read our blog for details.
