1. The Chef

Before earning chef stardom, Masaharu Morimoto was to be drafted as a baseball catcher in Japan’s major leagues. When a shoulder injury ended his promising career, Morimoto began studying sushi in his hometown of Hiroshima. He quickly grasped the technique and opened his first restaurant at age 24. Five years later, he moved to America to explore a cuisine that would combine the best of both continents.

Morimoto opened his eponymous Morimoto Restaurant in Philadelphia in 2001. He then opened a slew of eateries in almost a dozen cities, including Mumbai, Tokyo, New York City, Hawaii, and many others. He even competed on the Japanese television show Iron Chef and Food Network’s Iron Chef America. Today, Morimoto and his restaurants have garnered critical acclaim. His incredible dishes and signature style continue to excite thousands of diners all over the world.

2. The Menu

The menu at Morimoto Maui utilizes fresh, local ingredients from Hawaii and seamlessly integrates Western and Japanese ingredients. Signatures entrees include whole roasted lobster, Thai curry snapper, and seafood toban yaki. You can even choose from a variety of steaks and sushi rolls. Be sure to save room for dessert and indulge with “the road to matcha”, a decadent dish made with kula strawberries and white chocolate rocks.

If you’re going out with a group, we recommend trying the Morimoto Omakase, or chef’s choice. This multi-course tasting menu allows you to experience the absolute best of Morimoto’s cuisine. Order a few rounds of cocktails and enjoy sharing with the table. Cheers!

3. The Atmosphere

With 180-degree ocean views and neutral toned materials, Morimoto Maui features a unique design inspired by a modern Japanese beach house. Guests may enjoy their meal in the dining room or at the sushi bar, poolside lounge, or beautiful outdoor terrace. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner.
